BIOGRAPHY

Life so far has been a multi colored mix of cultures, from the Swedish countryside, with a quick stop in Berlin to the Alcareñian mountains in central Spain. The blending of classical trumpet studies in Malmö and the balcan influences in the Malmö based band Östblocket always with a stroke of jazz present has created a cultural melting pot where everything is possible. 

Mathias was born in 1974 in the small town Tidaholm, Sweden. He started his musical carrier as a trumpetplayer in the public music school and have since then studied in Skövde High school of music, Ingesunds Folkhögskola in Arvika for Mr Harry Kvebaeck and finally at the Malmö Academy of Music for profesors. Bo Nilsson and Håkan Hardenberger. In 1998 he won first price in the Royal Swedish Academy Scholarship awards. After his exam in 2000 he has been working in many of the major orchestras in Sweden such as the Malmö Symphony orchestra and the Stockholm Philharmonic orchestra. He appeared as a soloist with Ars Nova (Malmö) and with Musica Vitae from Växjö. He has also done numerous recitals with Trumpet and Organ/Piano.

 

Internationally Mathias has appeared in: Denmark with the Athelas Sinfonietta, Austria with the Klangforum Wien, in Germany with the Dresdner Sinfoniker, in Kenya and the Seychells with the Seychell Festival Orchestra, the Erasmus Brass Ensemble in London and in France as a member and soloist of the Académie Provencale les Amis de Stuttgart.

 

Besides the classical education and carrier Mathias has been playing with different groups and constellations manly from Malmö and among them the balkanband Östblocket that he cofounded in 1996. The group has recorded 4 CD´s and are giving concerts throughout Europe.

As a composer he has made theater music and balcan songs for different projects as well as arrangements for wind orcestra and bigband. Recently he has composed and recorded music for a short movie and the Antártida performance.
